Discovering eYeka talents: creator of April - CONS

By Ekaterina Pashina on 2017年4月04日 08:18 Featured Authors 0

Hello eYeka,

We can’t wait to introduce you our creator of the month in April – Conor/CONS - a designer from Ireland, who you for sure have seen among the recent winners on eYeka. Conor keeps winning a prize almost every month since he joined us last November, his creativity inspires brands like Oral-B, Febreeze, Nutricia and his designs for Canada Dry cans will be on the shelves next year.

Let’s meet him and know more about his background, creative process and inspiration!

Wicklow, Ireland, 2017

Can you start by telling us a little about yourself? What brought you to the creative world? What do you do outside of eYeka?

So my name’s Conor McNally and I’m a migrant illustrator-designer currently living in a town called Bray in Ireland. I grew up around the world in a dual-national diplomat family and I got into all this from incessant doodling as a kid in Dublin, Rome, Brussels, Dar es Salaam, Jerusalem and Boston. I went to London to study Design and then kept running with it to New York, Cairo, Tanzania again, Beirut and Berlin. I’m currently back in Ireland for a bit and life is great.

Home in Beirut

Most work these days is conceptual; communication, tone of voice, design strategy, or design.. but illustration still pops up now and again and it always feels like working with an old pal! There’s nothing quite like it.

Outside of Eyeka, I’m working on theatre posters for The Eurydice Project in Dublin and making Tilt Brush VR environments with KoffeeCup in London. Not to mention ongoing collaboration with the amazing Mindthegap.agency in Beirut… Those guys are it.

The photos here are a few of my favorite work spaces in different countries. You can see some of my work on Behance  or on my sleepy Instagram.

Rooftop workspace at Emersons in Zanzibar, 2016

When and why did you join eYeka?

It really came out of nowhere. I was in Berlin in Spring-Autumn, but by November I was broke and really needed a plan. A buddy showed me Eyeka.. and since then it’s been crazy. I never expected something so disruptive would come from such inauspicious beginnings. So çok şükür, Oli!

Can you share your creative process with eYeka contests? What inspires you?

I get overloaded if I’m stretched too thin over too many projects, so I’m mega selective about what I join. I have a 2-day max. Typically day 1 I head out and spend the day making 2-3 pages of sketches, writing, idioms, visual language stuff.. and then on day 2 I design and upload it.  Whatever the outcome, it’s 2 cool afternoons spent on challenging stuff that has a pretty good chance of getting serious cash for... All wins.

In a very short time on eYeka you have already won 9 prizes! Your first accepted submission dates back to November 8th 2016! Your eYeka profile description ‘Random guy’ doesn’t really match this track record. What do you think makes a winning entry?

So far it’s the entries I’m happiest with but feel are too ‘far out’ for the brand that have the most luck. But at the same time you’ll see incredible ideas tank and not-so-incredible ideas win, so it’s a total coin flip. But outside of contest results, I feel anything that makes it in your folio afterwards is a winner for sure.

Live-work space at the Harbour bar, Bray, 2017

Do you have projects or works which make you especially proud?

Oral-B Japan. The winning visual kept coming to mind while falling asleep after a night working on other submissions. I still have the scribble of paper from when i turned on the light, which makes it even cooler to imagine it up around Tokyo one of these days.

Canada Dry was nice in that it provided the unique experience of exploring just how relaxing a 7 X 10 cm panel on the side of a can could possibly be. And the winner in that contest sounds like it could be going into production across all North America soon, which is totally nuts... Or 100% Real Ginger if I can do that.

Syria 2012

What have you been able to do or to achieve with the prizes you have won?

It’ll let me live nicely in a lot of cool places for a long time. I haven’t decided on where yet, but after 7 years in Africa/ Middle East, somewhere devoid of sun on some inhospitable storm-beaten rock in the Atlantic sounds perfect.

Can you describe eYeka in one short sentence?

Possibly an alternative to work.

Anything you would like to say to conclude? What advice would you give to new creators?

I keep a google doc for every project. It keeps all my ideas synced between my laptop, phone and devices and I can’t live without it.

And lastly, a huge thanks to you guys for so efficiently evolving the creative industry... I wish you every success!

Thank you Conor. We liked the idea of a google doc, might create one for your winning submissions. Thank you for this inspiring interview! We wish you a lot of great adventures and beautiful stories ahead. And we can’t wait to see your next entry on eYeka! Good luck!

By Natasha Miller on 2017年3月28日 11:57 Call for entries 0

The magic of first times, every time, with IDEAL

IDEAL evaporated milk from NESTLÉ (also called “CARNATION” in some countries) is a dairy cooking milk made from high quality local fresh milk which gives a remarkable, smooth and creamy taste to both savory and sweet dishes.

It is often perceived by the younger moms as the “traditional” product of their mothers or their grandmothers. That’s what the brand is willing to change: resolutely modernize the brand and make moms use IDEAL evaporated milk as a modern cooking aid giving each time an unparalleled velvety sensation. IDEAL wants to encourage young moms to use it in many dishes: spaghetti carbonara, creamy mushroom chicken, puree, apple flan...imagination is the limit!

Through a story board or an illustrated script for a 60-seconds TV commercial, show moms that IDEAL’s evaporated milk brings the magic of first times to their busy lives!

Format: illustrated script (4 pages max.)
